Free Fire India Weapon Range, Recoil and Attachments: What Counts
Notes on shotgun and SMG range roles, M7 and Skorp recoil, Winchester reload rhythm and skin effects, turned into 13 test fields and why site stats are not damage.
This page puts the official explanation of range roles, the M7 and Skorp recoil mechanics, Winchester’s lever action and reload rhythm, and the official note on weapon skins together, and turns them into a set of test-record fields you can copy directly. It gives no strength ranking: the sources say explicitly that those descriptions reflect the balance intent of their time and cannot be used to prove the current win rate or placement of any gun.
Where does the official source place shotguns and SMGs by distance?
The developer article of 2023-05-24 set out one clear division of range: shotguns are positioned as extreme close-range burst weapons, SMGs as close-to-mid range weapons. The article also acknowledges that shotguns were then considered still too strong at longer distances, so range and usability were adjusted, and the performance of some SMGs was improved.
Evidence level: Global reference — From a Free Fire global developer article, not an India announcement; whether the India client uses the same range parameters is unverified.
Evidence level: Historical version — The article was written on 2023-05-24 and describes the balance intent of that time; later patches may already have changed it.
The correct use of that passage is to explain design intent, not to rank guns. It cannot prove which shotgun is stronger now, nor that a given SMG is necessarily at a disadvantage at mid range — that requires testing under fixed conditions. For the full mechanics timeline behind range roles, see Mechanics evolution.
Why can’t one damage number judge a weapon?
The methodology the same developer note sets out is this: test weapon range, tolerance for consecutive hits, firing while moving and reloading separately; a single “damage” value is not enough to judge who suits every situation. That sentence outlasts any specific number, because it establishes two things:
- Damage is only one of four variables. Range decides whether you can fire from outside the opponent’s range, tolerance for consecutive hits decides the cost of losing your track, firing while moving decides whether you can shoot back while repositioning, and reloading decides the gap after you empty a magazine.
- These four variables do not substitute for one another. A gun with strong close-range burst does not mean it can still use the same playstyle at longer range.
It needs emphasis: this is a test method derived from a design note, not an officially published weapon tier list. If a guide can only say “high damage”, it has effectively said nothing.
What is the “aim point rises” mechanic on M7 and Skorp?
The official description of M7 is: a fully automatic assault rifle that uses a new recoil mechanic, with the aim point rising during sustained fire. Skorp uses a recoil mechanic similar to M7, and the official description also covers its fire rate and armour penetration.
These two entries point to something testable: recoil is not “does it shake”, but “where does the crosshair go during sustained fire, and how fast”. When testing, break it into at least four observations — where single taps land, where the third shot of a burst lands, where a full magazine lands, and which direction the point of impact drifts when firing while moving. All four are descriptive records; they involve no specific numbers and do not depend on whether the official source published parameters.
Evidence level: Global reference — The mechanic descriptions for M7 and Skorp come from the official weapon page and were not checked on the India client; whether the two launched in the same version and share identical parameters is pending testing.
Why does Winchester’s lever action affect reload rhythm?
The official page describes Winchester as a lever-action marksman rifle with a distinctive firing rhythm and loading mechanic. That sentence actually contains two independent variables: firing rhythm (the interval between shots is set by the action, not the trigger) and loading mechanic (loading works differently from magazine-fed weapons).
Record them separately, and you can answer the questions readers actually ask: after firing one round, can the second be loaded immediately? Is loading one round at a time, or a full reload? Can loading be interrupted to fire? The sources give no answer, so this page gives fields only, not conclusions.
Do skins change weapon stats?
The official customer service note on weapon skins mentions that some skins may change stats. What that means is: when testing, you must record whether a skin is equipped, otherwise two data sets may simply not be comparable.
But “may change” does not mean “every skin changes something”, and it does not mean “by how much”. This page will not write numbers such as “skin X adds this much damage”, because the source does not provide them.
Evidence level: Global reference — The skin note comes from the global customer service knowledge base and states no applicable version; the India client’s skin pool and effective rules are unverified.
Evidence level: Unverified — Whether a specific skin changes stats, and which stat it changes, must be tested on the India client under identical conditions.
A test record format you can copy directly
The table below has 13 fields in total: the first 11 record the weapon and its shooting behaviour, and the last 2 fix the test conditions — without those two, the first 11 cannot be reproduced.
| Field | What to record | Why record it |
|---|---|---|
| Name | Official English name, including suffix (e.g. M4A1-II, SVD-Y) | Different suffixes are often adjusted separately in patches |
| Category | Launcher / SMG / Rifle / Shotgun / Sniper / Marksman Rifle and so on | Category sets the default expectation for range role |
| Hit location | Record head, torso and limbs separately | A number that does not separate hit location cannot be reproduced |
| Fire rate | Rounds per unit time, noting tap fire or sustained fire | Effective fire rate differs between sustained and tap fire |
| Magazine | Rounds in a full magazine | Determines the damage window before a reload |
| Reload | Record empty reload and tactical reload separately | Lever-action and magazine-fed differ markedly |
| Distance falloff | Impact or effect change across at least three distance brackets | Range role is verified this way, not by feel |
| Armour interaction | Record separately against no armour, level 1 and level 2 | The official source specifically notes armour penetration for weapons like Skorp |
| Attachments | Which are fitted; test both fitted and unfitted | Attachments change recoil and spread |
| Recoil | Direction and size of crosshair movement during sustained fire | The core observation for M7-type mechanics |
| Skin effect | Whether a skin is equipped, and which one | The official note says some skins may change stats |
| Client version | Version number and patch name (e.g. OB55) | Patches change values; data without a version expires |
| Test environment | Training Ground / BR / special mode, map and settings | Training Ground rules are not BR rules |
Which conditions must be fixed before testing?
There is a ready-made lesson from Gloo Maker. The same mechanic had completely different rules at different stages: early in 2023 a level-5 producer was first offered in Big Head mode, only on 2023-05-30 did it become something everyone has in BR and keeps its level after revival, OB50 then adjusted production, hold caps and upgrade speed, and OB54 changed the per-level caps and the amounts gained from eliminations and loot.
So test conditions must lock down four things: mode, version, level or enhancement state, and whether a pet is equipped. Of these, “not treating Training Ground rules as BR rules” is the easiest mistake to make — weapons and attachments you can pick up freely in the Training Ground must be looted or airdropped in BR.
The three most common misuses
- Treating site stats as combat damage. The official page has sort options such as Damage / Range, but sorting is not a citable number table, and the sorting changes between versions.
- Treating historical balance intent as a current ranking. “Shotguns are too strong at longer distances” was a judgement made in 2023 and cannot be used to assert that it is still true.
- Not recording skin and version. Miss these two and the data cannot be compared with anyone else’s test, nor can you tell whether a later patch changed it.
These three map exactly onto this site’s use of evidence levels: what the official text supports is “Global reference”, what applies only to a given date is “Historical version”, and what has no first-hand source is “Unverified”. For the criteria of the four levels, see Research methodology; for the mapping between patch numbers and announcement dates, see Versions and events archive.
How does this fit with the weapon catalog?
This field table should be used together with Weapon categories and official descriptions: the catalog page answers “how does the official page describe this gun”, and this page answers “how do you verify whether that description still holds”. All 12 first-screen weapons in the catalog page can use the fields above directly; for weapons that were only named as adjusted in patch notes, confirm their current category and available modes first, then start recording.
Sources and limitations
Official sources:

- Official weapon page (M7, Skorp, Winchester card descriptions)
- Official weapon skin explainer
- Gloo Maker design note
- Gloo Maker historical patches: 968 and 1170
- Gloo Maker cap adjustments: OB50 and OB54
Unverified items:
- No first-hand data has been obtained for the current range, recoil or armour penetration parameters of any weapon in the India client.
- Whether the “similar recoil mechanic” of M7 and Skorp uses identical parameters: the source says only “similar”.
- Whether Winchester loads one round at a time or reloads fully: the source does not say.
- The specific stats a skin changes and by how much: the source says only “some skins may”.
- No field in the table has been through a complete test run on the India client yet; this page gives a record format, not test results.
