Free Fire India Special Modes: Bomb Squad, Zombie Hunt and Football
Garena official historical announcements on Bomb Squad, Zombie Hunt, football modes, Ping Compensation and quick pings, noting what can and cannot be confirmed.
Free Fire’s special modes have long been mixed up by secondhand tutorials: Bomb Squad gets written as Clash Squad (CS) defuse rules, Zombie Hunt gets conflated with the zombie events in Battle Royale (BR), and the football mode gets described as something that only appeared in 2026. This page does one thing — set out the facts that can be read directly in Garena official announcements, and state item by item “what can be confirmed and what is still missing”. All citations come from global-site announcements or official detail pages; whether the standalone Indian version offers them, where the buttons are and what the current values are all still need checking in the FFI client.
Why can’t special modes reuse another game’s rules?
Bomb Squad has the objective of planting and defusing a bomb, so it is easy to write as “the same as CS”. But official announcements record something else: the 2022-06-03 announcement changed Bomb Squad to 5v5, added the El Pastelo map, introduced new buy requests and a random shop, planned the update for 10 June, and paired it with a limited-time ranked challenge. The 2022-11-16 Winterlands patch further changed the spawn area, attacker bomb distribution and the knock-down mechanic.
Evidence level: Global reference — The source is a Garena global-site announcement, not a test record from the standalone Indian version.
All that can be confirmed is the layer “this mode has a bomb objective”. How long a defuse takes, whether a knocked-down player can be revived, and how the economy is calculated cannot be carried over from CS. A historical version once removed knock-down revival, so an old guide describing a “rescue flow” would be plainly wrong.
Evidence level: Historical version — The changes above correspond to the 2022 version and may have been adjusted again since; whether the standalone Indian version includes the mode is unverified.
What can be confirmed about Bomb Squad, and what is missing
| Item | Confirmed | Still missing |
|---|---|---|
| Team size | The 2022-06-03 announcement says 5v5 | Whether it is still 5v5 |
| Map | The announcement mentions El Pastelo | Whether that map is still in rotation |
| Objective | A plant-and-defuse bomb objective exists | Timing, round count, win/loss rules |
| Purchases | The announcement mentions new buy requests and a random shop | Prices, economy rules, whether they are retained |
| Knock down | The 2022-11 patch changed the knock-down mechanic | Whether revival is possible now, and how long it takes |
| Ranked | The announcement mentions a paired limited-time ranked challenge | Whether there is a separate tier and season now |
Is Zombie Hunt the same mode as other zombie gameplay?
No. An official 2022 patch describes Zombie Hunt as multi-stage co-op PVE with difficulty unlocks, stage buffs, talent points and bosses; the zombie events in BR are something else. Writing the two as one mode makes every question — “how do I spend talent points”, “where is the boss” — wrong.
Later announcements layered on different content: Double Evil added rotating maps, dual bosses, an exchange shop and a talent overhaul; the 2024 Mechadrake version introduced Rift Raiders’ 4v4 summon-boss race, Hunting Spree and Dungeon Ascent. The availability and rewards of these modes belong to their respective versions and cannot be merged into one “zombie mode master table”.
Evidence level: Historical version — Each item corresponds to a 2022 or 2024 version announcement and cannot be treated as current permanent content.
What can be confirmed about Zombie Hunt, and what is missing
| Item | Confirmed | Still missing |
|---|---|---|
| Mode nature | Multi-stage co-op PVE | Number of stages and the objective of each |
| Progression | Difficulty unlocks, stage buffs and talent points exist | Talent tree structure, rate of earning points |
| Bosses | The announcement mentions a boss; Double Evil mentions dual bosses | Boss mechanics, spawn conditions, health |
| Rewards | The announcement mentions an exchange shop | Exchange rates, reward list, whether it is time-limited |
| Difference from BR zombie events | They are two different modes | The current rules of the BR event |
The football mode did not first appear in 2026
The 2022 Winterlands version already had Football Squad 4v4 and Social Island football. The former decides the winner by goals scored and lets you choose positions with different character skills; the latter pushes the ball through Football Shooter. The 2026 Fire Kickoff is another rule set: it turns Factory on Bermuda into a football pitch and offers football one-on-one revival after an early elimination, football form and exploding football, with the mission interface advancing rewards in stages.
So when you see a claim like “the football mode launched in 2026”, ask about the year first. Old tutorials are not unusable, but they must state the year and the applicable version, otherwise two rule sets get mixed. The fact that maps are temporarily changed by events can be compared in Map changes and the OB54 correction.
Evidence level: Historical version — The 2022 Football Squad and Social Island football belong to that version’s records.
How should high latency, teleporting and “I shot but no damage” be understood?
A 2023 official patch introduced Ping Compensation: it discusses damage handling before a Gloo Wall is placed under high latency, server verification possibly failing under extremely high latency, and display improvements for position anomalies.
This record is useful in two ways. First, it shows that “teleporting” and “no damage” have network and verification causes, so the opponent cannot simply be assumed to be cheating. Second, it does not mean all network problems are solved — the announcement describes the optimization direction at that time, not a guarantee for any network environment. When troubleshooting your own case, check the basics in India server basics first, then Account and troubleshooting FAQ.
Evidence level: Historical version — A 2023 patch record; later versions may keep adjusting the compensation logic.
What kinds of information can quick pings actually send?
A 2023 patch described sending the corresponding information by dragging a Pin onto a resource, the map or the HUD, which may include skill cooldown, a request for healing, Gold, Gloo or ammo. This is a historical feature description and is useful for team-communication tutorials; but button positions, Pin styles and the items you can send all need to be checked once in the current FFI client.
For ordinary players there is only one actionable conclusion: pings should carry “location + what I need”, not just “enemy here”. Handling feel and layout belong to Sensitivity, HUD and graphics.
Can these modes be played in FFI right now?
This page’s sources cannot answer that. All citations are global-site announcements or official detail pages, which prove “a certain version was designed this way”, not “the standalone Indian version has an entry point today”. The order of judgment is written in Research methodology: first the FFI client mode list, then Indian official announcements, and only then global material for background. Long-term mechanic changes can be compared in Mechanics evolution, and the character skill differences behind the modes in Character skills index.
